The CitySwitch Annual Awards recognises achievement across the national network of businesses. The Awards provide a great opportunity to understand best practice and share success and learnings.

As part of signatory commitment to the program, we encourage signatories to attend the annual CitySwitch Awards ceremony. The next annual awards celebration will be held in April and early May 2023 across Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney.

Awards submissions have closed for this year. Thankyou to those of your your sent in a submissions. We'll announce the winners at the annual events in April and early May. 

Awards

  • Signatory of the Year

There are two categories for signatory of the year. Those with an office NLA nationally of less than 2,000 m2 and those equal to or above 2,000 m2. Your submission will be judged alongside others of a similar size and those that are also represented in the same state.

State award winners will go into the national pool.

  • Partnership of the Year

This award is designed to recognise outcomes from the partnership of tenants, building managers and owners. Collaboration is key to driving net zero buildings. At least one of the organisations submitting for this award must be a program signatory.

  • Leadership Award *NEW

The CitySwitch awards are about recognising excellence, the leadership award takes it one step further. Submissions should demonstrate excellence in along the net zero pathway, climate resilience, as well as how they lead, motivate, and inspire internally and industry wide.

  • New Signatory of the Year (coming in 2024)

In 2024, we’ll celebrate our new signatories of the year, including those who joined in the past 12 months (Jan 2022 – Dec 2023). Get your teams engaged now and project up and running. We look forward to hearing your achievements.


Submission Process

Please download the relevant submission form, complete, and attach any evidence.

The form and attachments should be submitted to your program manager by email by COB 10 March 2023.

Eligibility criteria

·         Signatories submitting for an award must also complete their annual report.

·         Preference will be given to signatories who hold a current NABERS tenancy or whole building accredited rating and awarded 5 extra points. We understand there are reasons for which you may not have a current accredited rating; please explain in your submission why this is the case.

Judging criteria

Entries will be judged by subject experts and industry leaders. The judging panel is yet to be announced. The specific criteria for each award can be found on the submission form. Please note not all criteria are equally weighted and answers should be supported by evidence.

Winners will be announced at the annual CitySwitch events in April / May.

CitySwitch Signatory of the Year and New Signatory Awards - category judging criteria

  • Delivering outcomes as demonstrated by an improved or maintained current NABERS Energy rating and achieved energy savings* (up to 28 points)
  • Implementing one or more energy saving initiatives (up to 10 points)
  • Demonstrating leadership by undertaking innovative, creative or progressive office energy efficiency activities (up to 10 points)
  • Engagement of staff/ customers/suppliers and/or stakeholders to educate and create market transformation (up to 10 points)
  • Participation in CitySwitch local program activities (up to 10 points).
Note, new Signatories submitting for New Signatory of the Year Award need only complete an indicative rating – all other submissions must be accredited.

CitySwitch Partnership of the Year Award - category judging criteria

Eligibility Criteria

Submitted projects should:

  • Involve more than one registered company 
  • Demonstrate that they are  innovative and over and above “business as usual”
  • Demonstrate that they catalyse “market transformation” and or “address a market barrier”
  • Deliver a reduction in energy consumption and carbon emissions within the built environment 

Judging Criteria

  • Delivering outcomes as demonstrated by an improved or maintained current NABERS Energy rating and achieved energy savings* (up to 14 points)
  • Implementing one or more energy saving initiatives (up to 10 points)
  • Demonstrating leadership by undertaking innovative, creative or progressive office energy efficiency activities (up to 17 points)
  • Engagement of staff/ customers/suppliers and/or stakeholders to educate and create market transformation (up to 17 points)
  • Participation in CitySwitch local program activities (up to 10 points)
  • The submitting entity MUST be a CitySwitch Signatory
Note, Signatories submitting for the Partnership of the Year Award may submit an accredited NABERS tenancy, whole building or base building rating.

It’s easy and free to join the program. Your good-will commitment to the program is an acknowledgement of the business sector’s role in
contributing to environmental sustainability and your intention to reduce your own energy consumption and associated carbon emissions.

As part of this, Signatories to the program commit to achieve an accredited NABERS Energy tenancy rating (between 4 and 6 stars) and
work with CitySwitch to improve their tenancy’s environmental performance.
