There are various tools that provide a standardised framework to measure and continually improve a building or tenancy's performance.
NABERS Energy is a benchmarking tool to measure the greenhouse performance of office premises. Buildings with better ratings will consume less energy than buildings with poor ratings and improvements in NABERS ratings directly correlate with decreases in greenhouse gas emissions. On average, an improvement of one NABERS Energy star equates to a 15 per cent decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
Green Star is a voluntary rating tool covering a vast range of categories (including Indoor Environment) that evaluates the environmental design and construction of buildings.
BEEC - Under the Commercial Building Disclosure scheme, a Building Energy Efficiency Certificate (BEEC) is required to comply with the disclosure Act. This encompasses a NABERS rating, a lighting assessment (tenancy) and general energy efficiency guidance.
